Sailing Regattas on Carriacou and Grenada

Carriacou Sailing Series

The first Carriacou Sailing Series was held in November 1998. The sailing series is governed by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) racing rules of sailing, the prescriptions of the Carriacou Sailing Series and the issued sailing instructions.

There are five classes of races over 4 days as follows – Racing with Spinnaker, Cruiser Racer with or without spinnaker, Cruising, J24 and Multi-hull.

The next Carriacou Sailing Series takes place from the 13th to the 16th January 2010.

Carriacou Regatta

Established in 1965 by the late John Linton Riggs, a Jamaican born Yachtsman who settled here in Carriacou the early 1950’s, the Carriacou Regatta began as a local boat race using the traditional fishing workboats, to continue the indigenous art of Boat Building handed down by Irish and Scottish Ancestors.

It has now evolved into a major Caribbean sailing event, held over the Emancipation holiday weekend, with keen competition among sailors from many of the neighboring islands and beyond.

The next Carriacou Regatta runs from July 25th to August 2nd 2010.

Grenada Sailing Festival

The Grenada Sailing Festival attracts sailing enthusiasts from all over the world, and for the first time in 2010 will feature two consecutive week-ends of racing and activities.

The next Grenada Sailing Festival runs from January 29 to 2 February and February 6th and 7th 2010.

Grenada Round the Island Race

This first race was was 5 January 1969 when the Grenada Yacht Club held its first Tall Yachts Race with eighteen boats. competing, making it one of the finest spectacles beheld in the Caribbean at that time.

The event is now run by the Grenada South Coast Yacht Club. In last years event “Region Guadeloupe” won in a time of 3 hours and 54 minutes slashing more than an hour off the record.

The next Grenada Round the Island Race runs from March 12th to 14th 2010 from Grand Anse Beach.
