Want To Get Married on Carriacou? This is what You Need

In order to get married on Carriacou Island, visitors must be resident on there for a minimum of three days (including weekends and public holidays) before applying for a license. You will find that Carriacou is a laid-back and welcoming place. As you walk along the street you’ll receive lots of unsolicited greetings and hellos. What a great friendly place to rest up for a few days before your big day.

Application for a Marriage License is made at the Prime Minister’s Office and the necessary Stamp Duty and license fees paid. This process takes about two days but slightly longer if either party is divorced as documents must be sent to the Ministry of Legal Affairs.

Most Government offices are open from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays but are closed on Public Holidays and Weekends.

Required Documentation for Getting Married on Carriacou

Birth Certificates

Valid Passports

Sworn Affidavit, or letter from a Clergy Man, Lawyer or Registry if one or both parties are single, attesting to the fact that the parties involved have not been married previously. (One each if both are single).

Decree Absolute if divorced (one each if both are divorced).

If widowed, a death certificate.

If under the age of 21, evidence of parental consent by way of an Affidavit from a Lawyer or Notary Public.

Legal proof if name is changed by Deed Poll.

All documents must be in English. If originals are in another Language, they must be translated into English and certified. And please note, no medical tests are required for marriages in Grenada and Carriacou.

Carriacou’s always been a quiet, less touristy place for those who truly want to get away from it all and a wedding on this rare unspoilt spot in the Caribbean would be unforgettable.
